Greetings from this firey and bright corner of the world. Autum is putting on it's best show and I'm in love with the season.
Speaking of love...there's been a whole lot of it going around in Portland.
To celebrate the 2012 Playing For Change Day, the Maine Academy of Modern Music (MAMM) partnered with a number of local filmmakers, musicians, and students to make our own video in the style of the Playing For Change "Songs Around The World" series. They chose to feature the song "Be In Love" by Portland's own Dominic Lavoie. In conjunction with the video MAMM hosted the second annual "Playing For Change ~ Playing For Maine", a series of local concerts in some of Portland's best live music venues, all to raise awareness about the value of music education in the lives of young people around the globe.
Watch "Be In Love"

The amount of conflict in the world (topped off by the tenor and tension of the election season) leaves me feeling overwhelmed and downright sad some days. That's why I'll be attending Connecting For Change, the Bioneers conference in New Bedford, MA. This continues to be one of the most hope-inspiring and enlightening events of my year. I'm honored to be performing this year; an opening slot for the prolific author and climate change activist, Bill McKibben.

2010 Connecting For Change Performance
November heralds a new project and creative challeng for me. For the remainder of the school year I'll be working with all 450 Ocean Ave. Elementary School studenets, teaching and exploring songwriting. This is part of a grant-funded arts initiative that will bring in local musicians and bands, literary artists, dancers, and actors to deliver programming to this public school. We'll be sure to share their creations with you at the end.

Best wishes for the remaineder of the month...
-Emilia
