Emilia and I finally crash into each other, staying at the flat of a new friend, Diana, the founder of the Psychosynthesis Institute in London. Christmas here was quiet, joyous. We took a bus tour of London, a new visit for me, and marvelled at this center of conquest and empire, now a bit more humble, a bit less ambitious perhaps. Rain today, wind. We are mentally preparing for 2 more weeks of work in Findhorn.
Raft is just about done. Just finished Thea Alexander's pulp futurist novel from 1971, '2150 A.D., recommended by a friend at Findhorn. Interesting forecast to ken Wilbur's Integral philosophy and Don Beck's Spiral Dynamics. Check out 'Holocracy'. Last week, the Findhorn solstice ceremony in Northern Scotland was a really nice way to bring in the new astronomical year during the longest night we will see in the Northern Hemisphere. After a dedication, a meditation, and the choosing of an angel card to represent this years energetic theme (they have devil cards too but didn't choose one, hmmm), each individual silently walks a spiral to its center, lights from the candle burning there, and spirals back out to offer their flame and a prayer to a glowing globe, symbol of our big amazing Earth, and there chooses an angel card to represent the theme of one's personal life until next year's solstice. Simple, quiet ritual.
The theme for our collective year was "Beauty"
For 3 days after the night of solstice, the sun appears to be motionless in its transition from a shrinking lower arc to its widening higher arc across the horizon, . After those 3 nights (Christmas Day), it slowly appears to broaden its arc again, moving us toward longer days and regeneration and Spring. We now look toward our own Gregorian New Year celebration, putting a fairly tough and transitional year for the world behind us.
Sending light to all for this new year...
